The Asus Eee PC is going to keep its Messianic feel for a few more weeks as Everex has announced that its $399 CloudBook, a sub-notebook that has been deemed as the first real rival for Asus' product, will have its release date pushed back.
Based on a VIA platform and embracing gOS as its free operating system the CloudBook was initially planned for a late January release in the US but now that's been put on hold for at least 4 weeks. The delay is due to some apparently much-needed gOS tweaks which hopefully will make the OS and system as cute and cuddly as the Eee PC.

Yahoo caught censoring Open Sauce

Yahoo has been accused of favouring Microsoft over Open Sauce software on its Yahoo Answers service. Amanda Kerik responded to a problem that a user was having with their Windows machine that since they had to do a re-install they might as well install Ubuntu Linux.
She got a message back from Yahoo claiming that such a comment was in violation of its Community Guidelines or Terms of Service. It deleted her answer and warned her not to post anything like that again.
The incident has created a bit of a stir after Kerik posted it on her bog and there are dark mutterings about a Yahoo boycott. According to Slated it is further proof that Yahoo is a bit too close to the Vole. It has previously supplied them with search and ad services and even if a merger is of the drawing board, it appears the two companies are working closely.

Scythe unveils Zipang CPU cooler with 140mm fan
Set on cooling the heck out of the little transistor colonies we call processors Scythe has now unveiled a brand new cooling solution, the Zipang. The cooler utilizes UPHC or Uneven Parallel Heatpipe Construction which takes the advantage of heatpipe attachment for both the top and the bottom portion of the heatsink fin, and, on top of that it features a nice 140mm fan to blow the heat out of the well... air.
The Zipang or SCZP-1000 is compatible with Intel Socket 478, 775 and AMD Socket 754, 939, 940 and AM2 motherboards and weights 815 grams. The bundled 140mm fan is certified to work at 1000 rpm when it has a noice output of 21 dBA and a top air flow of 51.82 CFM.
The Zipang has a suggested price tag of $58.00 or 44.95 euros (without VAT).

Nokia captures 40% of phone market, has new record quarter
Finnish mobile magician, Nokia has now posted its latest quarterly results and it looks like it ended 2007 with a bang. In Q4 of last year Nokia's net sales topped 15.7 billion euros, up 34% over the 11.7 billion resulted in the same period of 2006.
The last three months of 2007 have seen 133.5 million Nokia mobile phones shipped, up 27% on year and enough to secure the company a 40% share in the mobile phone market, an increase of 1% on-quarter. That number not only puts Nokia way in front but it actually means that it shipped more units in Q4 than the next three vendors' shipment volumes combined. Better yet, the average selling price experienced during the quarter went up one Euro to reach 83 euros.
For 2008 Nokia is looking to increase its market share still by taking advantage of the growth of emerging markets where it is already doing quite good and has established a strong brand.

Crysis soundtrack to be released next week
Sumthing Else Music Works has inked a licensing deal with Crytek which will see it release the original soundtrack of the GPU-killing FPS (first-person shooter), Crysis. The soundtrack features over an hour of original orchestral music written and conducted by award-winning film, television and video game composer Inon Zur and performed by the Northwest Sinfonia Orchestra.
Crysis' soundtrack is set to be released via retail stores, iTunes and www.sumthingdigital.com next week on January 29. No upgrade required this time.

Sneak has discovered that respondents to a confidential sexual health survey conducted by the Manchester Health Watchdog were all thanked for their participation, via a group email. Problem is that the watchdog forgot to conceal the addresses of those they were contacting, so everyone now knows everyone who took part. Terrible stuff, although quite what good the information would be to an ID fraudster Sneak is not sure, aside from blackmail. Nonetheless it has rattled those taking part. "It makes me wonder just how confidential the information they've collected really is and if it's even being protected at all. I'd urge people to think twice before participating in any online survey now," 21 year old linguistics student Christopher Garrett is reported as saying. After a period of testing and tweaking 3DMark Next developer Futuremark has now announced the full release of the "Price and Performance Information Page." Available here at YouGamers.com, the new service is set to give you an idea of what components have the best bang for buck score and it is based on the not as accurate as you'd want 3DMark06 and CNET Shopper.
The service basically analyzes the user-submitted 3DMark06 scores and pairs the components tested with their current retail prices resulting in a 'score' which indicates how much performance you can get for your money. The charts include best graphics card, and single, dual- and quad-core processors.
