Japanese Citizens get Cell Tower Removed for Health Reasons

Japanese Citizens get Cell Tower Removed for Health Reasons
NTT DoCoMo Kansa, Inc will be removing a tower that it installed in a local bus station December 2005. About 40 residents of Kawanishi, Hyogo formed a group to eliminate pollution triggered by electromagnetic waves. They claimed that after the tower was installed many people had problems with headaches, insomnia, high blood pressure and also ear ringing.

They filed a request for arbitration with the Osaka Summary Court and on Monday reached a settlement with NTT DoCoMo. NTT DoCoMo claims that these symptoms were not a cause of their tower and is pulling out because the bus station has decided not to renew their lease for the tower.

What do you think about the radiation omitting from Cell towers? Do you think they will find links between the radiation from the towers and illnesses with the general population?

Asus Eee PC gets its first accessories
The start-up success of the Asus Eee PC is very promising but when you sell low-cost products extra revenue never hurts and that's why the Taiwan-based company has now released the first four accessories for the 920 gram laptop. Asus has now begun to serve Eee PC mice, headsets, power adaptors and batteries.

Two batteries, one 4 cell with 5200mAh and one 6 cell with 7800mAh, are set to breath extra life into the Eee PC while the adaptor and headset are pretty self-explanatory and are not in any way special. The mice however care available in five color schemes, connect via USB port and have a resolution of 1000dpi.

The accessories will be released in Q1 2008 but their prices have not been announced.

Wal-Mart shuts down movie download service
Although it didn't even get to celebrate its one year anniversary Wal-Mart's movie download service has been shut down due to lack of technology support. Launched in February, the service was powered by HP technology but since it decided to give it the axe and discontinue support due to low movie sales Wal-Mart was left with no choice but to stop selling movie.

Through the move Wal-Mart has also stated that it will not be looking for a new platform and that for the foreseeable future it will not be trying to get the service back online. Another one bites the dust.

Netscape browser bites the dust

Saturday, December 29, 2007

Netscape browser bites the dust
The beginning of 2008 will mark the end of an era - that of the once mighty browser that ruled before Microsoft's Internet Explorer matured, Netscape. The browser that ruled before the broadband became a common word is now taking its last breaths of air as AOL has decided to pull the plug on it due to low market share and no real expectations that things will be turned around in the future.

Based on Mozilla's Firefox 2, Netscape 9 is the last version in the browser series and although it will be getting security updates in the next month, from February 1st, 2008, it will be left to the wolfs and no further support will be provided. Following that date Netscape.aol.com will continue to run and older version of the browser will be available for download. As for those who'll need to look for a new browser, AOL recommends the Foxxy One 2.0 (Firefox 2). We'll light a candle old friend.

Nvidia asks partners to cut manufacturing costs of GeForce 8800 GT cards

Nvidia asks partners to cut manufacturing costs of GeForce 8800 GT cards
Nvidia's G92 GeForce 8800 GT has been quite a successful card despite its share of availability problems but the good times haven't really remained unchanged since the arrival of the Radeon HD 3800 series. To better counter AMD's RV670-powered Radeon HD 3870 Nvidia has told its partners that they can just cut the GeForce 8800 GT's production costs by using PCBs with six layers instead of the current one that have ten layers.

By using the new PCBs the cards will be able to be sold a little cheaper thus offering the 3870 a more decisive run for its money. Apparently not every manufacturer was happy with Nvidia's suggestion but either way they put it the move will make the 8800 GT cheaper and most likely even more popular so everyone (involved) should be on the winning side. I'll have a $229 8800 GT please.

Windows XPMicrosoft to ease XP activation with SP3
By Gregg Keizer
December 27, 2007

Microsoft Corp. will change how users activate Windows XP when Service Pack 3 launches in the first half of 2008, a company white paper said. New installations of Windows XP SP3 will give users the same 30-day grace period currently offered to Windows Vista customers before they’re required to enter a product activation key, the 25-character code that proves the copy is legitimate.

“As in Windows Server 2003 SP2 and Windows Vista, users can now complete operating system installation without providing a product key during a full, integrated installation of Windows XP SP3,” the Microsoft paper stated. “The operating system will prompt the user for a product key later as part of Genuine Advantage.”

With earlier editions of Windows XP, users must enter the activation key during the installation process itself; failing to do so, or using an invalid key, would result in the installation being blocked.

The white paper, however, noted that the change does not apply to existing Windows XP installations upgraded to SP3. Those copies, which have presumably passed the activation stage previously, will not request the key again, Microsoft said.

These first launches already give GLONASS aka the Global Navigation Satellite System a complete covering of the Russia but the expansion will continue until 2009 when 24 satellites are set to cover the whole world and offer the US' GPS a run for its money.
