Intel QX9770 held back some more
January 20th was supposed to be the grand shipping date for quite a long list of 45nm-built desktop dual- and quad-core CPUs but, as it turns out, only the E8000 series are hitting the stores. The quads are now looking at a February-March release and that now includes the QX9770. Set to be the big bother of the QX9650 which was released in November, the QX9770 will be clocked at 3.2 GHz and will have a FSB of 1600 MHz.
The QX9770 was initially supposed to arrive this month, together with the X48 chipset but, as AMD poses no problem at the very top of the performance spectrum and the chipset was delayed a little, it will only be released in late February or early March, likely together with the non-extreme quads. When it finally comes, the QX9770 will have a price tag of $1399, in 1000-unit tray quantities.
