The European Union has taken one more step towards making Galileo a reality as now, the multi-billion euro project has been approved by the majority of the EU transport ministers. The satellite navigation project has had its share of problems when companies backed out due to its costs but now, with the EU set to fund it should be expecting better days, at least until it is launches and has to battle the GPS.
The approval from transport ministers has also been troublesome as Spain wanted to host one ground station while the general opinion was that the two locations already chosen, one near Rome and one near Munich we're more than enough especially as there weren't enough funds to set up a third ground 'base'.
Now that the decision was made the Galileo project should really pick us steam as it is expected to be operational by 2013. read more
