The number one and two makers and breakers of NAND flash chips, Samsung and Toshiba have signed a new agreement through which they will licensed to one another the rights to produce, market and sell memory with the specifications and trademarks of Samsung's OneNAND and Toshiba' LBA-NAND memory chips. To detail, Samsung will give Toshiba product specifications of its integrated OneNAND and Flex-OneNAND "fusion" memory chips while Toshiba will jump in and share the specs of its single-package LBA-NAND and mobileLBA-NAND flash chips.
The newly-signed deal is supposed to give OEMs more choices when it comes to high-end memory chips and also provide the NAND market with a bigger supply of chips. The first products coming out courtesy of this agreement will be released next year. read more
