Abit ditches IX38 Max and plans IX48 Max

Sunday, October 28, 2007

The haste with which Intel plans to release the X48 chipset, despite being in a slightly different price rage (read the X38 is 'cheap' compared to the X48) is starting to have foreseeable consequences. As the X48 will be ultra-high-end chip for LGA775 CPUs, especially for those bearing the Extreme name, Universal abit or abit for old friends and enemies has decided to not release the IX38 Max. Instead of having two Max boards, released just some two-three months apart abit is going straight for upcoming chip and preparing to have the IX48 Max at the end of this year or early in 2008.

The IX48 Max will be very similar to the almost released IX38 Max and will come with the same features, the biggest difference being the official support for the 1600 MHz FSB. The X38 will still be used by abit, for the IX38 QuadGT. read more
