Nokia captures 40% of phone market, has new record quarter

Finnish mobile magician, Nokia has now posted its latest quarterly results and it looks like it ended 2007 with a bang. In Q4 of last year Nokia's net sales topped 15.7 billion euros, up 34% over the 11.7 billion resulted in the same period of 2006.

The last three months of 2007 have seen 133.5 million Nokia mobile phones shipped, up 27% on year and enough to secure the company a 40% share in the mobile phone market, an increase of 1% on-quarter. That number not only puts Nokia way in front but it actually means that it shipped more units in Q4 than the next three vendors' shipment volumes combined. Better yet, the average selling price experienced during the quarter went up one Euro to reach 83 euros.

For 2008 Nokia is looking to increase its market share still by taking advantage of the growth of emerging markets where it is already doing quite good and has established a strong brand. read more
