Western Digital's revenue up in Q1
Western Digital has now posted its results for the first quarter of fiscal year 2008 and it can brag with some quite nice numbers. In the quarter ended in September Western Digital made a revenue of $1.766 billion with $1.726 billion coming from hard drive sales and $40 million from media and substrate sales.
With non-GAAP net income reaching $129 million, up from the $103 million one year before, Western Digital has sold no less than 29.4 million hard drives compared to 22.7 million in Q1 of FC 2007. This past quarter was the first in which Western Digital had more than half it total revenue coming from the non-desktop PC with 53% being attributed to notebook PCs, consumer electronics, enterprise applications and branded product retail sales. In Q1 Western Digital shipped about 5.9 million 2.5-inch hard drives for mobile applications and 3.7 million 3.5-inch drives for digital video recorders.
